Rue of the Month: Saint-Sebastien

A “Rue”, a street, is a place where we walk, where we observe, where we discover, where we get inspired. A street is a place of sharing, of meeting, of exchanging, of spontaneity, of surprises, and of emotions. A street is a place of simplicity, proximity, curiosity. A street is a place of art de vivre, creation and invention, a place of perpetual movement. Rue Amandine is constantly inspired by Paris and the “rues” and the treasures you can discover by just walking around. This month we want to spotlight the street Rue St Sebastien and the nearby places which add to the richness of the city.

Nestled in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, Rue St Sebastien runs perpendicular to the busy Boulevard Filles du Calvaire. Yet the road itself is tranquil and many great addresses can be found there and close by. And if you’re in the area, stop by our offices for a petit café and we can talk about your Paris experience.

1) Fragrance

Here you’ll find a hole-in-the-wall gem. One part flower shop, one part tea salon - Fragrance offers a reprieve from the busy streets of Paris. The shop is bursting with colorful flowers and foliage as well as a vibrant selection of pots and other home decor delights. Enjoying a cup of coffee at Fragrance surrounded by the sweet floral scents is a pure pleasure.

2) Aï Hsu

At Rue Amandine, we are crazy about this place. The main reason? The chirashi. Seriously, it is the best in town and we ritually get it once a week. On Rue Saint-Sebastien this micro-canteen is tastefully decorated with both Nordic and Japanese influences. Breaking away from the stereotypical sushi restaurant, Ai Su offers its guests a fresh take on Asian food. We couldn't be more spoilt to have them as a neighbor.

3) Soeur

Soeur, the shop that captures classic French elegance with a touch of Bohemian chic, is found just off the corner of Rue Saint-Sebastien and Boulevard Filles du Calvaire. From elegant scarves to beautifully crafted sandals, these clothes are of the highest quality.

4) Utopie

Whoever said "anything is possible" has clearly never tried to walk out of this bakery without buying something. Isabelle, of course, never leaves without her favorite "flan". The desserts are works of art - almost too beautiful to eat. ALMOST. They also make a particular charcoal baguette - perfect for a sandwich "haut gamme".

 5) Maison Bastille

So fresh! So healthy! So heavenly! Marie, a friend and the founder, has established Maison Bastille as a lunch time favorite in the area. This small vegetarian saladerie is cosy and welcoming and uses well-sourced materials to create a tasty selection of salads. Also on the menu are tartes, curries and soups du jour. The menu changes constantly so you have an excuse to go everyday and regularly be surprised. The decor is chic yet unpretentious and the service is always impeccable. Stop by for a bite.

6) Showroom Tassia Canellis

A personal friend of Rue Amandine, Tassia Canellis, makes dreams into jewelry. Her designs are refined and delicate and you'll be tempted to buy the whole shop. The space is shared with the clothing brand CharlotteSomebody so pop in if you're in the area to get your fix of authentic french fashion.

7) Atelier Cecile Cotten

Treat yourself to a luxurious Cecile Cotten experience. Her skill is unrivaled and her Atelier is an oasis of tranquility from the busy bustling street. She offers an array of professional yet personal treatments. You will never want to leave.

8) Perrotin Paris

Normally when people want to see some contemporary art, they head off to the Pompidou Centre. Yet, there is a lesser known museum close to Rue Saint Sebastien which is a bit more bite-sized. The walls and rooms of the Perrotin are a kaleidoscope of edgy, interesting art works. Definitely worth a peak!
