Thank you Mr Shchukin!
Beautiful, amazing, ... I can't find enough words to praise the beauty of the exhibition I just saw at Fondation Louis Vuitton, this new contemporary Museum right in Bois de Boulogne in Western Paris. Shchukin, this Russian wealthy businessman of the end of XIXth- beg of XXth Century, was a great man: curious, open-minded, visionnaire, he built an art Collection like no-others. Tens of Picasso and Matisse, but also Cézanne, Gauguin, Derain, Le Douanier Rousseau... artists that were not understood at their starts and that he trusted from the start. More than 250 paintings, all considered today as master work.
He is the one that ordered "La Dance" to Matisse ... (a painting that is not in the exhibition but in front of which I spent ages, as hypnotized, when it was shown in Centre Pompidou 20 years ago).
The exhibition, reunits paints from Saint Petersbourg and Moscow mostly. A unique opportunity to see a great part of it.
Go go go, it is until Feb 22nd 2017 and it is enough of a reason to come to Paris before then!
Merci Mr Shchukin!
